Bedwas High School in Wales is a secondary school for boys and girls aged 11-18. The school prides itself on setting high standards and expectations and it encourages and supports its students to achieve their very best. Indeed, the school was challenged by the Welsh Assembly Government, Caerphilly County Council and Education Achievement Service, to further its academic progress.

Reducing the cost of first-rate IT provision with refurbished machines

As one of 40 schools in ‘Challenge Cymru’, Bedwas High School is tasked with improving at a faster rate than other schools in Wales and, as a result, teachers at Bedwas have improved many of the school’s practices and to afford students new opportunities.

“Our drive to enable our students to perform as best they can means it’s vital to provide the best facilities and resources that students need to excel,” said Mr Peter Ward, Headteacher at Bedwas High School. “We realise that first-rate technology and IT infrastructure is vital to modern-day teaching but are also aware that providing such equipment comes with a cost. And at a time when budgets are tighter than ever. By doing our research and working with a provider like Renewed, who gave sound, solid advice and offered very flexible packages, we have been able to equip our school with a first-class infrastructure at a fraction of the cost.”

By working closely with the Renewed team, Bedwas High School was able to invest in 40 refurbished Dell-OptiPlex systems. By opting for refurbished hardware systems with up to date software, the school saved £6,000By realising this saving, the school could replace an entire IT suite within budget, rather than piecemeal replacement programme had they bought new machines.

As well as providing a significant cost saving for the school, refurbished IT equipment plays a big role in helping to reduce the school’s environmental impact. Each year millions of tonnes of e-waste end up in landfills as organisations upgrade their IT structure and replace it with new hardware. Choosing refurbished or renewed hardware reduces the mining of core minerals, reduces landfill as hardware is refurbished rather than thrown away and increases the longevity by up to 10 years. The combination of reducing the environmental impact and providing significant cost-savings makes the choice to buy refurbished IT hardware a simple one.

Confidence buying renewed IT hardware

Refurbished or renewed IT isn’t a second-hand option. The machines which Renewed provide are refurbished to function like new, without the hefty price tag. The Q20 promise from Renewed is a comprehensive quality assurance promise and commitment, to providing customers with confidence in their refurbished purchase. Each machine is put through stringent checks and updates and comes with a 12-month warranty, as well as our ongoing customer service. To ensure reliability, quality and performance, we developed our Q20 guarantee checklist. Each and every machine that we sell goes through and passes this stringent list before being sold for its second life.
